What is AI and how can it impact our future?

Artificial intelligence is quite different from what most people think, and it has come a long way in recent years.

What we usually understand as “artificial intelligence” generally consists (in simplified terms) of large sets of equations, organized into models capable of analyzing data in a structure that tries to mimic the behavior of human neurons, with the great advantage that the volume of data is orders of magnitude larger than a person could accurately analyze.

These learning models can help us increase the human capacity to find solutions to many problems, with the potential to make our lives better in ways we cannot yet even imagine.

That is why it is important to start thinking about AI from the perspective of what it does for us, contrary to what we have been conditioned to believe about computers: that they are tools designed solely for the purpose of replacing us in every possible way.

Artificial intelligence can help farmers get more out of the land while using resources more sustainably. From detecting pests to predicting which crops will give the best returns, it can help humanity face one of its greatest challenges: the growing demand for food. Source: Intel

NPCs, or non-player characters, are currently where artificial intelligence is most used in games. Using these technologies, these characters act intelligently, as if they were controlled by human players. The behavior of these characters is determined by algorithms and behavioral mechanisms; some titles that stand out in this area are Red Dead Redemption 2 and Middle Earth: Shadow Of Mordor. Currently, the most common functions of AI in medical settings are clinical decision support and image analysis. Clinical decision support tools help providers make decisions about treatments, medications, mental health and other patient needs by providing quick access to information or research relevant to their patients. Open source projects related to artificial intelligence

Some of the largest technology companies in the world are betting on the power of collaborative development to accelerate the development of technologies related to the various branches of artificial intelligence. Let's look at some of the source code projects available online, so that anyone interested can collaborate or create solutions based on research by giants such as Meta, Google and Amazon.

Google

Google supports the development of many free software projects, including the Linux kernel and the GNOME project. According to the company, its focus is “solving real problems for everyone”, supporting the innovation, collaboration and sustainability of free software through its programs and services.

TensorFlow: the main open source AI project for deep learning. It was originally created for machine learning and deep neural network research by the Google Brain Team, within Google's Machine Intelligence research group.

DeepMind Lab: an open source 3D game platform created for research and development in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning; it was acquired by Google in 2014.

Meta (Facebook)

Facebook has a large repository of open source projects and believes mainly in empowering the community through open source technology. So let's look at some of Facebook's most famous open source projects:

PyTorch: built by Facebook and released on GitHub in 2017, it started as a Python-based replacement for the Lua Torch framework, focusing only on research applications.

Detectron2: a state-of-the-art software system from Facebook AI Research that uses cutting-edge object detection algorithms.

Prophet: an open source forecasting procedure in Python and R, used mainly by data scientists and data analysts, allowing them to obtain fast and accurate forecasts.

IBM

IBM has open source projects across a wide range of technologies. These are critical to driving innovation and technology growth in the future. IBM's most popular open source projects include

Watson Developer Cloud: allows companies to inject Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) into their applications so they can make more accurate predictions, automate company decisions and processes, and obtain optimized solutions.
